Microsoft will soon offer Windows 10 power users with multiple GPUs greater control over how they can use their graphics cards when running applications in Windows 10.

If a user has two GPUs in a computer, Windows 10 will assign the integrated one as a power-saving GPU and the discrete graphics card as the high-performance GPU.

When running an application, Windows 10 will then decide which graphics card should be used. For example, if running a game, Windows 10 will use the high-performance GPU.

Using the Graphics settings under Settings > Display > Graphics Settings, a user can currently specify whether an application should use the high-performance or power-saving GPU.

Windows 10 power users to get more control

In the Windows 10 preview build 20190, for users with multiple discrete GPUs, Microsoft is now letting users decide which graphics card should be set as the default high-performance card.

In some cases, though, one graphics card may be better suited for a particular application, even if it is not the default one selected by Windows 10.

Windows 10 will soon also allow you to specify on a per-application basis what specific GPU you want to use.

This setting allows Windows 10 users to choose a particular GPU that may perform better in a game, even if it is not the most powerful card.

This also applies to cryptocurrency, video editing, and machine language/AI applications that may be better suited for a particular GPU rather than the one Windows 10 thinks should be used.

Otherwise, you will need to wait until it is released in a feature update.
