In bluetooth settings... What is SCMS-T content protection?

Hello so i'm just looking over my bluetooth settings and i noticed an option that i'm not aware of... under the audio tab in settings there's a option that says "connect to an audio device only if it supports SCMS-T content protection"

 

What does this mean and should i have the box checked or unchecked?

Looks like it have something to do with copy protection, file integrity and maybe the copyright of a file.

The following page seems to suggest turning it on so that you will be able to listen to music that is SCMS-T encoded. Otherwise you will not be able to listen to it. As far as other stuff goes it should do just fine. I do not think it has anything to do with devises that you hook to, just the music files only. So if you come across a music file that has SCMS-T inscription and you have the setting turned off then you will not be able to listen to it, or at least that is the way it seems. As others have mentioned this is a vague subject for sure.  But after reading more it would seem disablying it is the best option according to the later links below.

 

~EDIT~ my bad for giving the wrong link, but I did not think it was answered very well, and as I was going through this very thing I thought to try and help add clarity by what I was finding. Not so sure that it clarifies anything other than giving some ways to remedy issues one may have because of it.

I know I'm 4yrs too late, but I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to give a thorough and detailed response.. Despite the fact that "this was already answered", your reply was the only one that gave me the information I had googled for. So even though it was unappreciated at the time, I appreciated it.. I don't have to keep googling now just because someone thought "it has to do with copy protected music" was sufficient enough of an explanation. You da man brah

SCMS (Serial Copy Management System) is a type of “digital rights management” that can be implemented at the option of the Bluetooth software provider (e.g., Toshiba). It is a method of enforcement that is used for recordable audio CDs that allows only one copy of the original to be made. Plantronics products do not support the SCMS standard.

Note: Some versions of Bluetooth software will give you the option during installation to choose whether or not you want to support SCMS.
