I have a secondary hard drive with a 1TB capacity. I just noticed that in the root directory of the drive (D: in this case) there are folders named AutomaticDestinations and CustomDestinations. They each contain thousands of files with names like 5f7b5f1e01b83767.automaticDestinations-ms. No file has been added or updated in either folder since October, 2020.

I did a Web search to try and find out what these files are, but the only results I got in my searches referred to folders in AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent and mostly discuss Quick Access. So those are system folders, but what are these things on my D drive, which haven’t been updated in over 4 1/2 years? Can I delete the folders?

Hi, Yes difficult to nail down.   What are in the folders ??

Did you make these files or are you installing or copy or saving using file names that are to long.  ??

Thus the __________Destination

https://www.tenforums.com/backup-restore/215022-destination-path-too-long.html

5f7b5f1e01b83767.automaticDestinations-ms are Windows Files.     How much space do you have free on your C: Drive or any Drive ?  Must always have 15% or above free at all times

for updates, swap File, Temp Files and browser cache and misc files.

If below 15% the files need somewhere to go.  This seems possible.

This page seems to be more promising to the question : https://www.google.com/search?q=5f7b5f1e01b83767.automaticDestinations-ms  But free space must be looked at by clicking your Drive in File Explorer and choose Properties.  So amount of storage used minus 85% will give free space available.
