A pity that it can only receive 650mb worth of files. For bigger folders, what alternative do you use to ensure it's 100% clean? Standard ones like MalwareBytes and Defender are clearly insufficient.

Hi, Welcome to BC.

Let us know when you find out.

So it depends on what you are doing.  If it is Torrents would suggest move away from the programs and go on-line to something like bitport (dot) io using magnetic and a T1 line.

Your Topic Question was in Reddit 3yrs ago : https://www.reddit.com/r/antivirus/comments/sfaagp/i_have_a_file_larger_then_650mb_too_big_for/

And THIS from that URL as to why cannot upload larger than :

I would also recommend everyone reading Why VirusTotal doesn't allow you to upload files larger than 650MB or "Should I upload files larger than 650MBs ?" since its important to understand :

Here : https://docs.virustotal.com/docs/large-files

That being said, good luck.

Most online malware scanners have a maximum file size limit for the reasons explained in Should I upload files larger than 650MBs? link posted by Pkshadow.

I provide maximum size limits in my Comprehensive List of Online File/URL analyzers & services

Malware tips provides a list of Online Malware Scanners Using Multiple Antivirus Engines with maximum file size limit but is is old.

However, any online file analyzer should be sufficient for sample submission because most malware files are small in size. According to Sophos Labs calculations from studies several years ago the average size of a malware was 126 kB in Jan 2005 and 338 kB in June 2010 as noted in Creating a Malware Analysis Lab and Basic Malware Analysis

From quite a few studies done around 2005 up to 2010 seem to have their binaries of 125 lines of code. Size wise, from Sophos’ Naked Security blog they list “In January 2005 the average size of a malware sample was 126 kB. In June 2010 it is 338 kB.” Stuxnet by comparison had close to 15,000 lines of code.

Fortinet released a white paper several years ago which stated.

Understanding How File Size Affects Malware Detection

Malware can come in almost any size file. To make their code easily propagated through the Internet, malware creators usually keep the files small. Malware is typically found within files that are less than one megabyte (MB) in size. According to Fortinet research, 97% of malware discovered in the past five years is below one MB in size. The small size of the malware file allows malicious content to be transferred over applications such as email, peer to peer download, IM and chat easily and executed quickly...The file sizes for spyware payloads also remain small, with 95% of spyware installers totaling less than one MB in size.
