I’ve been having sound issues with my ASUS laptop. When I click on a setting for one, I get this loud annoying buzzing sound. It also occurs when I play music, like through WMP, when I close the app, it stops. And when I play videos. When I bring up the YouTube website, don’t even have to start a YT video. So I tried and tried different things such as uninstalling my sound and game controllers in Device Manager and sometimes that works, and sometimes it works if I restart my computer. But it always comes back, I’m at a loss. So I did get it to stop but now I don’t have any system sounds like for notifications and such. Here’s how I stopped it, I chose “no sounds” in my sound scheme through control panel. So now the buzzing stopped and I have sound when I play music and videos and YouTube and game, I just have no system sounds. I would like to have them though so I can get notifications while I’m doing something else. Any suggestions?

Model of computer and Windows version?

I do a lot of audio work, ive never had this issue ,but windows 10 has had "weird buzzing" ,sound issues since it appeared for some people,..

Probably a good thing you at least found a workaround..

You could try reinstalling your network adapter ,sometimes seems to make a difference ,and also check if the issue only happens when "waking" the computer from sleep,..can be a factor..

Are you using external speakers,..some kind of electrical grounding issue?

ASUS Vivo Book 17 and Windows 10 Home

I don't understand how reinstalling the network adapter will cure this but I"ll try anything,

The sound occurs anytime, just from a wakeup, doesn't matter.

And I do not use external speakers

Neither do i ,i just know its been seen to cure the issue for some people,..

To be honest ,from what little ive seen of this issue ,its a massive pain.all i can suggest ,is try anything and everything

II  would get new drivers from the vendors support page and reinstall from there , also ,if you haven't run the audio troubleshooter .> Windows 10 Settings > Update and Security > Troubleshoot > Playing Audio.

Go into "sound" in control panel > check " disable all enhancements".

Test Sound card. https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-know-whether-a-sound-card-is-bad

Switch default audio on and off

Right–click on  “Speaker” icon in the lower right side of the system tray.

Select “Sound”> click on the “Playback” tab.

Right click Speaker icon and selecting “Sounds”

Right–click on the device with  “Default Device” written underneath  and select “Disable“.

Right–click the device again and select “Enable“.

Stuff to try if you havnt.https://www.howtogeek.com/443702/how-to-fix-sound-problems-in-windows-10/

If all else fails check for bios update.

Just to test, if you can get your hands on some external speakers (little cheap satellite speakers are fine, no woofer is needed) and make them your primary sound source. If the problem disappears then it is a electrical problem with your speaker circuit on the mainboard.

Just letting you know, I downloaded drivers from ASUS support and installed the latest drivers, and the problem ceased immediately. I didn't want to say anything right away until time passed, and I thought the problem was solved, Well later that day, I brought up wmp and loaded a song, and the annoying noise was back and back with videos also and all the same. This occurs in wmp and vlc but it i load a song in Groove Music, it plays fine. I'm so confused and annoyed, I've never had a problem like this with any computer I've had.

I think I have some external speakers, maybe, and I will try them just to confirm or eliminate an issue. I really appreciate your input and things I can try. None of this makes any sense to me and I'm so frustrated. I'll keep trying things and keep you posted, Thanks lots

Oh yea, I put an app on my phone to identify the pitch of the noise and it is an E flat. I don't think that makes any difference, but just imagine holding that key down on an electric piano or synthesizer, that's the sound.

If all else fails, try a DISM scan with Restore Health option enabled to verify the Windows image on your drive is good (make sure you are connected to the internet or it won't work), then after that  run SFC  /scannow from an elevated command prompt.

If still no joy, try a fresh, new install of Windows.  Yes, I know, it's a pain& a half, but at this point I don't know what to tell you.

It's beginning to sound like a failure in the circuitry of the mainboard, but that is only a guess.

It sounds like you're experiencing audio driver or hardware issues with your ASUS laptop. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and fix the problem:
  1. Update audio drivers: Visit the ASUS website and download the latest audio drivers for your laptop. Install them and see if the issue is resolved.
  2. Run audio troubleshooter: Go to Windows Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Playing Audio. Follow the prompts and see if it can detect and fix any issues.
  3. Disable audio enhancements: Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Playback devices". Double-click on your default audio device and go to the "Enhancements" tab. Check the box next to "Disable all enhancements" and click OK.
  4. Check hardware: If the issue persists, it could be a hardware issue. Try plugging in headphones or external speakers to see if the buzzing noise persists. If it does, there may be an issue with your audio hardware.
  5. Contact ASUS support: If none of the above steps work, it's possible that there's a more complex issue with your laptop. Contact ASUS support for further assistance and potential repairs.
I hope these suggestions help you resolve your audio issues and regain your system sounds.
