hi folks,

I bought a pristine "used" iPad. I didn't know at transaction but quickly learned after purchase it was jailbroken (Cydia app.)

I would not have likely jailbroken it if it wasn't already, but now that it already is -- I don't mind. In fact, I'm kind of interested in the new options I have. My only issue... should I have concerns about my privacy/security on this device? (knowing *someone else* jailbroke it)

I've been googling and reading on restoring / un-jailbreaking. It seems sometimes more harm can come from trying to restore - not knowing what firmware it started with.

Any thoughts / advice?

You will be fine. Just open cydia and go to manage and tap on packages and see which ones are installed and just check through each ones description if there is one that is odd then tell me the name of it and i will look into it to see what it does (I have a jailbroken iPod touch.)

Not familiar with iPad jailbreaking, but I know of iPhone jailbreaks that install/enable sshd. Maybe the jailbreak of your iPad installed or enabled sshd, or the previous owner installed sshd later on.

Anyways, check if you've ssh access to your iPad and if so, change the password, and if you don't need ssh access, disable it.

Ehh thanks for reminding me! Ok if you look in cydia on what you have installed, see if there is an utility called openSSH installed if it is uninstall it.

That will disable SSH which is what is explained above.

Ssh doesn't seem to be loaded, though I'm not really sure what is...I tok a screen shot and will upload-/post it later on. Thank you!
