Hi, I'm Garbage Data, or just GD.
My knowledge of computers is about a mile wide and an inch deep, and it's mostly software-side (my major is in cybersecurity). I came here for help. I am currently getting that help through the proper section of the forum. Regardless, I like the community here. I felt it'd be right to introduce myself! Hopefully, I can be of some help to others when my brain is less fried from troubleshooting my current problem. ^^
I'm typing this up on my old ThinkPad E580, which dual boots its original Windows 10 installation and a newer EndeavourOS installation (on separate drives). The Windows 10 installation hardly sees any use. I keep it around for college-related reasons. I had previously installed Linux Mint on this laptop. However, I erroneously assumed that I would actually be using part of the second drive with the Windows installation... and I found I preferred KDE Plasma over Cinnamon, which isn't officially supported on Mint. Starting over with a new distro let me kill two birds with one stone: re-partition the drive in the installer, and use KDE Plasma on a distro that actually supported it.
I have a newer laptop, a ThinkPad E15, as well. This device came with Windows 11 installed on it. I do not intend to dual-boot it at this time. It is the "work" computer, and dual-booting it might make it a "distraction".
My desktop computer is one I built myself in early 2023. Its primary OS is Windows 11. I recently installed CachyOS on its second drive and intend to test it out for tasks like drawing, gaming, and running virtual machines once I'm no longer troubleshooting the system itself. I am hoping that I can start daily driving CachyOS on this machine! Yes, there's art software that I paid for on the Windows installation, but I got it while it was on sale, and I've found that Krita has fewer performance issues on any machine. I'm confident that I can get my tablet working on Cachy.
Ramble over. Feel free to ask questions! ^^
