Hello, Genesis. I'm new, too. It's my first post, but this looks like a pretty decent place, even for the clueless, impatient people like myself. I don't often take time to read directions, but the humbling experience of this most recent browser hijacker I got will drive me to wait on an answer. If this post seems a little off, it's probably because I didn't read the directions on how to do it, either.

Here's a quick tip.
Know your own computer better, and familiarize yourselves with
terminology.
At your own pace.

Download and install
Everest Home Edition, a freeware program designed to document exactly what's inside your PC's case.
User-friendly GUI, it'll prepare you to discuss many subjects relative to computer use & your precise OS version on exactly what PC you run.

BTW, with a log in HJT, best finish the fix before downloading/installing anything other than the recommended apps & utilities.
Just makes it easier to narrow the focus on first restoring normalcy.
Then advancing.

Yes,there are a lot of new comers each day. I have seen as many as 50 or more a day! Not all of them say hello but there here.

We have all started out not knowing much. It is the best time to start off. Just think all what we have learned since we was born.

Well, I for one, feel really welcomed. I've already gotten quite a bit of help with my hijacker. It's not dead, yet, but it looks like it's taken a pretty good beating lately; not quite so perky as it used to be at start up. I'll be ecstatic when we rip it out by the roots. Is there a special spot in Hell for people who make these hijacking programs? I was once told the programmers for Windows 95 had all been reincarnated as deer that feel compelled to live near highways and are fascinated by artificial light. Do you think that's true?

An engineer installed a Nero burning software 7. something

I still dont get it


Is there an easier freeware or an easier one I can borrow from a friend & ask him to install it ?

Easier, perhaps.
Better, probably not.
Nero by Ahead is a superior product.
The 7 version is new and advanced, therefore it will do more than older versions.
That adds complexity.

To deal with that, concentrate on the base line offered: burn data CD
In 6, that was easiest to do with Nero Express.

In a nutshell, find which of the several "named applications" offers a question like:
'What do you want to do?" and "burn data CD" is one of the selections.

As a good practice, have a location in mind for a folder or files you want to copy to a CD-R disk
in your CD-RW drive. Along the way, browse will be offered. Typically what you choose will
be displayed in a "half of a window". Drag & drop will work to place it in the other half.
A "progress bar" showing you how much (of 700 mb total) your choice requires at the bottom.
Add at will.

The next button will take you to the "actual burning" display.
Activity showing stuff like buffering, etc. all culminates in a "successfully done" popup.
Another next button, and you'll be asked if you want to save the project.
I usually don't.

an Exit will do two things:
Take you back to some preliminary screen.
Pop the CD tray out.

Bear in mind a few things:
Ahead software is powerful & uses resources.
It likes to run from start & have a "call home" feature.
Well, that may be, but still it isn't required.
also it intergrates pretty tightly with winXP.
Thats good, and sometimes "notso good". Just give it time to do it's thing.
Interuptions can have sorta "far-reaching effects" on basic OS operation.
Nothing serious, nor really a problem, but first using it might cause concern.

I hope this kinda mellows your approach to using it some.
It really has a ton of service(s) to offer.
Just take 'em one at a time.

I had some techical difficulties (forgotten key code at a fresh OS load) that
yielded in Ahead sending a new 5.5 version to replace my 6 which had updates
apparently beyond the limit (free) of my bundled software that came with a CD-RW.
That was cool. I can't quote exact 6 or 7 features anymore, though. Sorry.
