Mostly VMs but I have the same problem with some physical computers. I don't know how these were imaged. I am currently testing on VMs as I can take snapshots and revert if necessary.

Duh...that makes sense. Sorry. OK, please do the following like we did previously.

1. Download IE10-Windows6.1-KB2957689-x64.cab.zip and save this to your desktop.
2. Right-click on the downloaded file and select Extract All...
3. Ensure "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click the Extract button
4. You can close the window that opens.
5. Click the Start button and type cmd in the search box.
6. Right-click on the cmd that comes up in programs and select Run as administrator. Click Yes to allow if the User Account Control dialog comes up.
7. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt window that is open. Note: You need to right-click the mouse in the command-prompt window and select paste in order to paste. You can't use the keyboard shortcuts.

dism.exe /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\IE10-Windows6.1-KB2957689-x64.cab\IE10-Windows6.1-KB2957689-x64.cab

8. With any luck you will see something similar to the following which says it was successfull. Please let me know how it goes.

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 6.1.7600.16385
Image Version: 6.1.7600.16385

Good. Attempt to install IE10. Preferrably download IE10 and use that instead of going through Windows Update. If it fails, once again please provide me with only the following log.

c:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log

OK, I have an idea. Please do the following.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.
