I know that I said that the behavior was not indicative of a policy restriction but if you want to look and make sure (since nothing else is working LOL) check this key in Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

and see if there is anything in that key about NoPropertiesMyComputer or anything else that looks like it might be about 'system properties'.

DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING

Just let us know what the value is if you see anything.

Right click on the desktop then go to Personalize from that Window select Change Desktop Icons and select restore default, and see if that works. The short cut could be damaged.

Good idea...but no luck. This is proving to be a surprisingly difficult mystery!

If you go to CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM
or depending on your settings
CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM AND SECURITY > SYSTEM

Does that work?
It shouldn't because that is exactly what the shortcut PROPERTIES does on the context menu of COMPUTER.

I will send you a PM with something else to try.

Mod Edit: Conducting forum business...via email...defeats the purpose of the forum and results in limiting the member to just one line of suggestions/comments. Since topics/requests for assistance...originate in a public forum, it makes sense to keep all suggestions public within the same forum environment ~ Hamluis.

Sorry.
It was proprietary machine code. His logs on the thread with Gringo indicated that he had passed Windows Genuine Advantage test so he was properly licensed to try this.

I asked him to delete the private conversation. Won't happen again.

Adam

Your problem is not with running sysdm.cpl.

It is with displaying a special type of folder. Another simple example is the Fonts folder. Let's see if that displays properly on your computer.

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to
C:\Windows\Fonts

Does it look different than a regular folder? Do you see Font options in the left column instead of the usual tree of folders that you normally see in Windows Explorer?

James,

I can open the fonts folder and see everything. It does look different. Is there anything different between the fonts and system folders?

I just mean that it looks different than a regular folder. On the top left is says "Control Panel Home", and below that (where the folder tree usually is) is some font shortcuts. Instead of folders in them main window it's all the different fonts.
