Make Acer eRecovery Discs

How do I make a set of Acer eRecovery Discs for the Aspire One netbook?

Acer eRecovery Discs cannot be created on a USB flash drive or media card, and can only be written to a CD or DVD, . . .

Not really sure this applies, . .you will find the details for this ;

Here

If there are no other choices, . in a previous thread (?) I thought someone was telling me about a

type of USB hook up that will allow the desk top to do the same job as an exterior optical drive.

You don't happen to know what is is, . . if not, no problem, I'll find it.

From Acer's website:

Select models have the ability to have the operating system reinstalled from a hidden drive built into the netbook. To start the Acer eRecovery:

1. Tap the Alt and F10 keys togther during Power-On Self-Test (POST while the Acer logo is being displayed).
2. When prompted with a boot screen, hit the Enter key.
3. After the Acer eRecovery program has loaded follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system.

If this does not work, then we will have to take the long, hard way to reinstall (the flash drive). :huh:

I may opt to Restore W-7

But, . .

Use a USB Key to Install Windows 7—Even on a Netbook
From Here

On the Disk Part Command Promt, . .
It appears that 1 is representing my (E:) Drive rather than the, Removable Disk (F:) ?

Is the Disk Part recognizing the correct drives ?

Posted Image

Maybe I should access or in some other way activate the F Drive ?

This is where Disk Management is more useful than diskpart.

Type the following into the Start Menu's "Run" box, and hit Enter:

diskmgmt.msc

Maximize this Disk Management window, then take a screenshot using this tutorial. Upload it to the internet (any file/image hosting site will do, I use Imageshack). Then post it here in your topic.

Well, I'm not sure why the flash drive doesn't show up in diskpart, but you can do the same things given in that tutorial in the Disk Management window as opposed to the command prompt and diskpart. It is simply graphical instead of command line-based.

Thanks, . . More than likely I could not have proceeded without that alternative.

If you bought the computer within 90 days Acer will send you the recovery discs for free. Call the support number.

He has the disks.

It is a netbook. Netbooks do not have optical drives. That's why we're taking the challenging route (as opposed to buying an external optical drive). :huh:

Use a USB Key to Install Windows 7€”Even on a Netbook

Located:

Is as follows;

# Launch the DiskPart utility by typing diskpart at the Start Menu.
# Then run the list disk command to check the status of your drive.
Video
Dennis Chung, an IT Pro Evangelist at Microsoft, demonstrates how easy it is to prepare a
USB thumb drive and use it to install Windows 7.

# Now run select disk 1 where the "1" is actually the corresponding number of your USB drive.
# Run clean.
# Once the thumb drive is clean, you can run create partition primary.
# Now make the partition active by entering active

My first question;

Since I am not using Disk Part Utility, ( BTW I think this can be D/L in a matter of minutes), .

Following your suggestion to Use ;
Disk Management to configure basic disks in Windows XP

Located Here

I opened the MMC as per ;
How to use Disk Management >>>>> There are no items to show n this view, . . .

or any others that I can find, . .

However the next procedure is to open Disk Management, I have this opened.

The thing is I am now using the alternative system to using DiskPart utility, as previously instructed in Use a USB Key to Install Windows 7€”Even on a Netbook.

On those instruction;

# Run clean.
# Once the thumb drive is clean, you can run create partition primary.

I can not find this action on the Disk Management Console, . . is this meaning, "format" ?

Further down it instructs to Format so it is not meaning format.

Let me put something on the Flash Drive and see if it then will appear in the DPU.

Nope !

Yes, formatting it will clean it. Sorry for not clarifying earlier. :huh:

Anything else that is unclear?
