I have gathered all the different links provided in this topic and a few more so this post can serve as a central repository.

Comprehensive List of Online File analyzers & services: <- some require registration to use

--In the "File to Scan" (Upload or Submit) box, click the "browse" button, navigate to the location of the suspicious file(s) and submit it for analysis. If you get a message saying "File has already been analyzed", click Reanalyze or Scan again.

Other Resource links for Online File analyzers:

Resources for URL Link Scanners which can be used to check suspicious/unfamiliar sites:

-- Use several different vendors when performing queries to confirm the results of page content. Even doing this, you still need to be cautions of other links on the page itself which can redirect to a malicious page.

This article (posted by quietman at the top of this page, the first one in the second category of links) should answer your question.

Anytime you come across a suspicious file for which you cannot find any information about, a file with a legitimate name but is not located where it is supposed to be or you want a second opinion...you can submit it to one of the online services that analyzes suspicious files in association with various participating anti-virus vendors.

In the "File to Scan" (Upload or Submit) box, browse to the location of the suspicious file(s) and submit (upload) it for scanning/analysis. If you get a message saying "File has already been analyzed", click Reanalyze or Scan again. Afterwards a report will be generated with results indicating if any of the antivirus detected it as malware.
