When you installed the latest driver from the link, did you remove the previous driver and use custom/clean install during setup? Is the scaling feature still grayed out on either windows and latest driver install?

I did not remove the previous driver. I just downloaded the driver from the site and installed it. Not sure how to do a custom/clean install during the setup. I don't believe it asked me. How should I go about doing this now that it's already downloaded?

See this link on how to perform a custom/clean install during hardware setup.

Choose custom install so you would not need to uninstall previous driver by add or remove programs.

THIS is exactly what I was talking about on page 5 of this thread. I had said:

"I pulled up the AMD Catalyst Control Center and looked at what the Desktop Area was set to. It says 1080p @ 60 Hz so it looks right. I guess I could go to Scaling Options and overscan it to make it fit the screen but I don't think that's natural and it would probably distort my screen."

The slider on the Scaling Options for me is towards the middle. So, I can slide it all the way down to 0% Overscan. Maybe I just thought that this distorted my screen when actually it's just a different look from the updated driver that I'm not used to. So yes, if I do as the link says, my screen does fill.

By the way, now that I'm running off this 2014 update, would you just hide the optional update for the graphics card we talked about earlier? That way I don't install it by accident. Not sure if it would ruin what I have now or not.

Also, when I did the complete reinstall of Windows, it created a Windows.old folder. Is there something inside this folder that files away my old bookmarks for Firefox? I'm still trying to see if there is a way to recover all my old bookmarks since I restarted and lost everything.

Also, when I did the complete reinstall of Windows, it created a Windows.old folder.

There is a documentation of what Windows.old folder still retains, see here on how to retrieve certain files.

Just to add also on why there's a Windows.old system folder and how to remove and save space, see this microsoft link.

Is there something inside this folder that files away my old bookmarks for Firefox?

Did you export/save the Firefox Bookmarks by chance on a folder prior to reinstalling windows? If yes, then look for the contents by User folder or according to you previous specified saved location.

Yes, from post #72 - You can ignore the optional updates actually by letting it unchecked or usually as unticked by default especially if its causing buggy results. Another option is to hide update. Go to Control Panel - System and Security - click optional updates (Video driver) then right-click hide update then hit Ok. Go back to optional update to confirm the update is gone.

Ooooooook. FINALLY I'm up and running. I pulled over all of the stuff from the Windows.old folder under the User folder over into my current set up. I haven't deleted the folder yet though. I'm a little nervous that I might need something from it and won't be able to get it if it's deleted. So, I'm going to hold off deleting it for now.

As for the Firefox bookmarks thing, I got them back. THANK THE LORD!! Very very very happy I was able to do that. Lots of time and effort spent on those and important information on them. If anyone comes across this thread and needs help with this, you can go here. The folder is hidden under the Windows.old folder though so you will need to unhide your folders and you can find out how to do that here. SO, now I'm set up with my bookmarks. YAY!

To address the optional update, now that I have restarted my computer and checked for updates again, the update has vanished as it should have. With the newest update installed, there shouldn't be a need for the old update so that makes sense.

I'm so happy that I am running again! Thanks so much for your help. It's been a long process but I greatly appreciate everyone's input, especially jhayz. You sir are a godsend. Words cannot explain how thankful I am that you were here to help me. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.
