When was the last time you opened the case up and cleaned it?

You meet the requirements.

You mean the computer it self? I guess I could clean it. Though I don't know why it would only affect Shogun 2 and not my other games.

Different games stress the system differently.

Ya but the actually performance under Medium settings for Shogun looked pretty smooth to me. I am just wondering why when I have been clearly told by Moderators of the official Total War game series that it should work for Medium settings. And it seems to be at certain parts that these crashes happen in the battles.

When do you notice the crashes, is it during intense battle scenes?

Actually it seems to be when I am just moving troops at certain points. The battles themselves mostly seem unaffected by it. Its usually when I am doing a "move troops to this area" thing on the tutorial campaign on the demo. Or when the adviser guy is taking a lot.

Just used that link and it says it's already updated.

Maybe Thursday or Saturday. The lighting in the area where the computer is is rather bad so its too dark to do it today. I am thinking of trying the historical battle on medium settings to see if maybe its just the tutorial stuff being the issue. Because when I was having the gray screen stuff with the buggy Steam ATI driver patch it seemed to work fine on Low settings. I will tell you how that works after dinner.

Also off topic, I invited you to be on my friends list on Steam.

Ok I tried the Historical Battle on the Demo on Medium and it worked for a while, but it froze and the screen turned black. Basically there was a lot of stuff going on at once as everything was getting hectic on the battlefield I don't know whats going on but it seems to be only affect the Shogun 2 demo. I really would like to run it on medium settings like they said I could but is starting to seem like that would be impossible.

What is considered well ventilated? My computer is set next to the desk near a wall. the openings are not obscured to my knowledge, though I don't know if it needs cleaning considering I have 2 dogs and 2 cats running around the house. What is the best way to find out if my graphics card is getting too hot?

Sorry for bump, but I found out the problem and fixed it. I was following a friends advice and custom tuned the graphics settings. Disabled some stuff, and increased some stuff and it worked perfectly fine. I guess Creative Assembly's games aren't that terribly optimized. Thanks for your help cryptodan! Hope to see you on Steam someday.

Sorry for the bump, but I have been having this issue again with other games more often now. I thought it was just the bloom/HDR settings but the issue still happens every now and then with Team Fortress 2 and Fallout New Vegas. The sound stutters a bit and the screen freezes, then the monitor turns gray or yellow. I am wondering if I should consider getting a new card or just go back to the old driver that didn't to have issues.
