If I'm in one VM can I click on another and make changes to the settings for the other none running VM?

I got Cinnamon running Full Screen, so will just go back and reinstall Kubuntu.  With Cinnamon it was just a matter of not allocating enough Drive Space.

Glad to hear you got Cinnamon running full screen.

I'll download a copy of Kubuntu and see if I have similar problems to the ones you've experienced, I'll get back to you once I've done that.

You might find the User Manual for VB useful .... https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/6.1.12/UserManual.pdf

Section 4 of it covers Guest Additions.

OK, finally got it to run on my machine by doing the following .....

Start Virtual Box

Launch Kubuntu 20.04 LTS

Click on Applications Launcher and select Computer

Scroll down to Removable Devices and check that VBox_GAs_6.1.8 is present

If it is ... double click on it to open it.

Once opened, double click on autorun.sh to launch it, and enter your password when requested.

Guest Addition modules will be downloaded and installed.

When finished you will need to reboot to load them'

Reboot Kubuntu

When fully booted

Go to View in the top of the Virtual Box interface, and select Auto Resize Guest Display which should no longer be greyed out.

After a few seconds your display should now be full screen.

Yes, I had been using the manual since the start Gary, thanks

Did you have to Update the system first Gary?

I did update and upgrade Kubuntu before doing anything else, but whether that's necessary or not I couldn't say. I suspect it is not.

From what I can see, the problem is caused by the Guest Additions failing to install automatically when the "disk" is mounted. Running the autorun.sh file manually, installs them.

I remember having this problem before with another distro, but I'd forgotten what I did back then to resolve things. It was only when I started playing around with things, that I remembered.

Thanks, yes, this is one thing I'm trying to know also.  I don't think it becomes available until all is up to date, but could be wrong, I will try to test this again later.  It seems it can be carried in from VBox or installed via the distro, weird stuff, everything is virtual and all the directions I see don't really explain it very well.

Thanks again Gary

Yes it's weird, I've installed quite a few distros on VB, some have displayed full screen without you needing to do anything, some you've had to install Guest Additions the way I described in my first post, and some it seems you need to jump through the hoops a bit to get things working.

Anyway glad to help, and I hope you're able to get a full screen display using the method I described above.

Please let me know if it doesn't.

Worked perfectly Gary, and was so well laid out I copied your instructions to a document, thanks!

It's so weird that VBox_GAs_6.1.8 is a Removable Device...ha!  Without Updating mine was VBox_GAs_6.1.10.  I will update now and get er going.  Performance is a little lacking considering I have plenty of juice, at least I think I do.  Perhaps my graphics is not up to par for this type of thing?

Glad to hear it worked for you as well.

I haven't played with my Kubuntu install much yet, but mine was a bit less than sparkling as well.  I'd put it down to the fact that I'd only allocated it 4Gig of memory, but it could be that it's a bit more memory hungry than that.

I suppose I could re-install it, and give it 8 gig, but to be honest I'd really have to be considering it for a long term test before I'd do that, and I'm a bit tied up with other things just now.

Interesting, I have 8GB Allocated for Kubuntu.  I have about 5 Allocated for Cinnamon I think, will look later.  They both seem to run about the same, a little slow but acceptable I guess.

Can't you just allocate more memory while it is installed?  I changed my Disk allocation while installed and it seemed to stick.

Thanks, I'm all set albeit to learn some more

To be honest I've never tried to allocate extra memory to an OS that I've already installed in VB, I'll have to have a play and see whether it's possible or not.

I'll do it Gary, so you don't have to waste your time.  I'll report back.
