I have a Tuf Gaming X570-Plus MB and a Ryzen 9 5900X CPU and wanted to tweak it to meet the windows 11 criteria so I could upgrade from win 10 pro. So I converted the MBR disk to GPT and then wanted to change the BIOS from legacy to UEFI only. When I did the boot drive was not detected. What else am I missing?.

Hi, Welcome to BC.

So to make sure you have named your system correctly as there is a Tuf Gaming X570-Plus and a  Tuf Gaming X570-Plus WIFI Support Pages.  Please confirm which.!! ?

Make sure BIOS is up to date and newest Chipset is installed, and any TPM Drivers installed, and BIOS has TPM turned on.

Turn off ASUS Fast Boot in BIOS.

Once up turn off MS Fast Start for the same reasons as above : https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/how-to-enable-or-disable-fast-startup-on-windows-11

Install all Win11 Drivers from the appropriate Support Page once up and running.  Note all drivers need to be installed after major updates.

https://www.elevenforum.com/t/boot-hdd-not-found-anymore-after-windows-11-install.6970/  \\

https://www.elevenforum.com/t/windows-11-upgrade-mbr-to-gpt-issues.19699/              Can use Hiren's Boot PE , created on another system and clean USB drive.

Can slip in anything you want into the ISO using Winrar if want to.

Not really fully descriptive : https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/4067132/changed-to-gpt-and-uefi-bios-now-windows-wont-boot

If nothing of importance make sure all Windows partitions are deleted and that there are EUFI, C:\> and Recovery Drive once install Windows

make sure this is done while installing Windows,

So that is what is possibly missing is the UEFI Partition which is causing the issue.

Random, head back to your BIOS's Boot section and ensure the following (but note or photo the current settings so you can put them back to how they were if needed):

  • CSM (Compatibility Support Module) -> Launch CSM  -> should be set to Disabled
  • Secure Boot -> Set OS Type -> should be set to "Windows UEFI mode"

Ensure too that fTPM is enabled in the Advanced section to ensure Windows 11 compatibility.

Providing that the OS drive has a UEFI boot partition, it should now boot normally.

Note : Re above those things should be done as stated.  If you do not have a UEFI Boot Partition do as per the URL's provided already.

Apologies for the brevity of my first post, let's start over,

So it's a Asus Tuf Gaming X570-Plus (WiFi) MB and a Ryzen 9 5900X (12 core) CPU

128 gb Gskill 3200 DDR4 RAM

I converted my Samsung 980 Pro NVMe 1 Tb SSD from MBR to GPT, set CMS to disabled,

set fast boot to disabled, set bios oprom to UEFI only, secure boot is Windows UEFI OS.

Restarts into bios only and cant find a boot drive, actually I see no drives at all in the

boot menu. change the CMS back to UEFI and legacy oprom and she starts right up.

I am not familiar with the UEFI partition set up on the drive but I bet you all are right about that.

I need to study how I check or create that partition. A URL has been mentioned, I can go there?

This is probably irrelevant but I use the M.2 for the OS and direct data to a 5 Tb internal HDD

I have a basic working knowledge of settings in bios and  very comfortable with hardware .

PS> M.2 firmware is the latest

Thanks in advance!

You may want to create or repair EFI system partition.

In this video, i will guide on how to repair EFI System Partition (ESP), if the system partition has been corrupted, you can use BCDBoot command to recreate the system partition files by using new copies of these files from the Windows partition.

In this video, i will show you how to create EFI partition from within Windows Recovery Environment.

Can you confirm the HDD was converted to the GPT partition style in Disk Management?  If it still says MBR, the conversion was not successful.

Yes, the drive converted to GPT  , no issues. I'm starting to see I probably deleted the EFI partition while making room for the GPT partition. I started with four partitions so GPT would not work, I had to delete one and apparently deleted the EFI. So I'll check out the link from Freebooter. Thanks :-)

Note : always make sure there is only 3 Partitions on C:\> as stated in Post # 2.

If doing a clean install you want to delete those 2 Partitions so does not hold false info and another Partition gets made that will Confuse Windows.

I had to put this problem on hold until I found time today to complete it. Thanks to everyone's input and especially FreeBooters video I now have a healthy UFI (system) partition. Thanks for everyone's help.

Well, having mastered creating a new Healthy EFI System Partition after deleting the

original one accidentally, I am still try to get this PC to pass the windows 11 test. I've

made changes to BIOS per Microsoft but still getting the warning not upgradeable to

windows 11.

So, let's review:

TUF Gaming X570-PLUS (Wi-Fi)

Bios ver:5021 (Latest)

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X (12-core @ 3700MHz)

Memory 131072 MB (DDR4 3200MHz)

D.O.C.P. Enabled, not sure if that is relevant)

C: is a Samsung 980 Pro M.2 NVMe PCI-e M_2

OS: Windows 10 Pro ver 10.0.19045 Build 19045 (latest)

MB, CPU and BIOS drivers& firmware are up to date

So, as per Microsoft I set the following:

Advanced fTFM configuration= Enable Firmware TPM

Erase fTPM NV for factory reset=Enabled

CSM (Compatibility Support Module) = Disabled

Boot Device Control=UEFI Only

With these settings my PC boots into BIOS only and does not detect a boot device. If I reset CSM

to enabled and Boot Device Control to UEFI & Legacy OPROM it will boot to windows but BIOS is legacy

as is expected under these settings. Is there something I missed here? Thanks in advance :-)
