What makes you believe you've messed up Windows Defender?

Hi, Start Search -->System Restore a click on Create A Restore Point.   Once open click on the System Restore Tab and look at the available dates and does it match anything before the time. As well it will check what programs it will have problems or remove stuff you have done.

Suggest make a Shortcut for Create a Restore Point to your Desktop and use it before doing things that possible may want to undue.

Or Reset Windows Defender https://www.elevenforum.com/t/reset-windows-security-app-in-windows-11.7363/

Suggest uninstall the games with Revo or Geek Uninstaller 1st. Force it and clean everything.

Run AdwCleaner and do not skip the last step.  If do not see the last step run it again.

If anything other than PUP's found start a Topic in the Malware Removal Forum.

Run DISM And SFC after

@BeigeBochs see https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/811763/problem-with-old-game/    possible running cracked software and made changes to Defender to allow the game to run.

Bought a CD but no idea if someone cracked it and burned it and shoved a label on it.

Moving forward, your best practice is to create a disk image on a regular basis and save it to a separate medium other than your primary hd or ssd.

And as asked above, what is the specific issue you are having with Defender?

Option 1 of security reset seems most straightforward. Then restore point if that doesnt work.

Do you agree

I wouldnt attempt option 2. And option 3 seems daunting as well.

Option 3 is copy and paste into Powershell and hit enter.

Not at all daunting.  And is less hassle than doing 1.

Thank you PKshadow and  buddy

OK, I haven't used things like Powershell, and admin mode before, it does look fairly straightforward once you are in it.

Looking into step 5 of option 1, what data does it delete ? Is it just my outlook address ? Because I never use that either, only on the desktop which boots straight into my screen, I don't use a password or key login, I did on my old desktop but nobody uses that or this desktop except me.

As said Powershell.   1 command, = 1 enter and you are finished with it.   Why do 1 when said it was harder to do and many things to do.

Powershell is just like a Dos CMD Box except more powerfull and Run as Admin am sure you have done that before in a DOS CMD to run Dism and SFC.

Can run DISM and SFC in Powershell as well.

So Start-->Search type Powershell then Right Click and Run as Admin then copy & paste : Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers *Microsoft.SecHealthUI* | Reset-AppxPackage   and Enter, Close Powershell.

You are finished, done, completed, no steps 1 To 6 to do.

Because it should be done as per the command.

This is what DISM and SFC means : From a DOS Command Prompt from START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe | select "Run as Administrator" then Copy/Paste --> :
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command then Enter    if it finds problems then reboot. (Completed Successfully : means reboot)
then
After : please Open another Admin Command Prompt and please run Copy/Paste --> SFC /SCANNOW
