Why is it that VLC media player has the annoying habit of freezing the video playback while the audio continues on? This happens on all videos and only a restart of VLC and resuming playback at the point of video freeze will get the playback to continue. Most annoying.

There is an article on Flickering Frustration: Why VLC Keeps Stopping and How to Fix It.

Good luck! :)

That sometimes happens to any thing that plays video.  I seem to fix my issues as believe it is the video it self by clicking video back or forward a few secs or minute.

Since browsers will play almost anything have not used VLC in years now.   Also use something like bitport(dot)io for torrents and then stream.

G'luck with VLC article..

Thanks for the input, midimusicman79 and Pkshadow. I've read your suggested article but my settings are the suggested ones and I don't have other media players running. I'll try turning off Defender and see if that helps. I have tries Windows Media Player and it stutters a bit at the start of a video but then works without any further hitches.

You are welcome, weybrew! :)

You can try running the software Resplendence LatencyMon - a suitability checker for real-time audio and other tasks.

Disclaimer: You do NOT have to purchase the above software, however.

You can then post the resulting log text in your next reply in this thread for our review.

Good luck! :)

I have been running the program suggested by midimusicman79 (post #5) and it is still running after 10 hours! Is this normal? Will the program auto complete or do I need to do something? Help anyone?

Just click the Stop button as described in an article on Using LatencyMon.

"When LatencyMon starts, it will display a message to click the Start button to start analysis. Click the start button. The page under the Main tab will give an overview of the most important information. A detailed report is available under the Stats tab. When you are done click the Stop button."

Good luck! :)

Well I've tried running the program twice. The first time it ran for 2 days! I didn't know what to do so I ran another scan. This ran for a few hours. I stopped it and tried to add the report to my clipboard and also a screen shot since both reports had the same commentary. That didn't work... the program disappeared and I can't find where the report went. I did get the screenshot, but when I tried to copy here, I got an error msg, saying I couldn't post that file format. I can't seem to find a way to let you see what the report noted. Any ideas?

Just tell me if the report was positive or negative, meaning either that your computer is suitable for multimedia (music and video) playback or NOT suitable for multimedia playback.

It was negative and suggested turning off "throttling," on "the control panel and BIOS." And also updating BIOS. I am not a skilled techie, so I'm in the deep end of my pool here.

Sorry to hear that, weybrew! :(

LatencyMon's audience is NOT novice users, but power users.

There is an article on How to manage Power Throttling on Windows 10.

Good luck! :)

I checked the throttling settings via the Task Manager and found all throttling disabled. For some reason VLC has run the last couple of days without and video problems, so I'll continue my good fortune until the problem arises again and then just switch to Media Player. Thanks for your help and advice midimusicman79.
