So I just bought a brand new phone that arrived yesterday and the camera doesn't work.

This was one of the main reasons I bought it (to use as a camera).

I was due for a new phone because the battery was dying on my 10 year old phone.

Well Google has set up all kinds of barriers and each time I try to turn on the camera

I am faced with this message:

" Go to system setting to empower permissions"

System settings does not help me.

I only want the camera to have access to the camera, no other app.

Any tips to get it to work?

Has anybody ever heard of this problem before?

What a stupid phone!

On a hunch I enabled the Phone app to have access to the Camera app.

The camera finally worked.

Why doesn't the phone give a message when I try to start to Camera app saying:

"Stupid guy, you need to give access to the Phone App before your camera will work!

When will you ever learn this?"

Try installing Google Camera (GCam) or another trusted camera app from the Play Store and see if that works.

Thanks for helping out Lucy.
As I mentioned in the message above I finally was able to get the camera to work after

banging my head against the wall for a long time.
Nothing online was of help to me.
I just kept trying different things.

I had a laugh when you said Google Camera or another trusted camera app.  :)

I wouldn't trust anything Google puts out with a ten foot pole. All of its software scrapes

every last bit of data it possibly can about you.

I had the same issue with a new phone and found that clearing the Camera app’s cache and data also helps. After that, I got the permission prompt again and the camera opened normally. Might be worth trying if the Phone app permission doesn’t solve it.
