… excellent. … So why can't it simply reshape the glasses in the modern photo to look like the variant in the vintage photo?

Look at this nonsense. I asked Nano Banana, the name of Google's premium image agent, to put the text on the cover of Nirvana's Nevermind album on a transparent background, and it made an image out of the pattern that is usually used to symbolize transparency:

Well, that is why pro graphic artists use Photoshop to actually do the work, not free online and hope for the best. c'est la vie

AI struggles to reshape glasses perfectly because it has to guess 3D shape, angle, and lighting. Small design differences make exact matching hard, so results often need a little manual fix.
