Well I dived into that Nordnet info as far as I dare and still no detection of a wifi network being found by my PC.  I confirmed that my wifi card only works on 2.4ghz and looked into the Nordnet box.  It was using both bands so I switched off the 5ghz.  While I had a connection to it via ethernet cable I did a couple of internet speed checks.  Via ethernet to the Orange ADSL modem the best I could get was 7meg.  Then with cable to the Nordnet box and the satellite I got between 100 and 120 meg.  Amazing.  That confirms the satellite dish is properly aimed.  Given Nordnet's reluctance to get involved with my problem I might just have to get used to being tethered (by cable) to the box and lose the convenience of wifi to the wife's laptop.  I will be cancelling my contract as soon as I am able.

I have internet access via two sources.  One is by landline ADSL supplied by Orange.fr and the other is by satellite supplied by Nordnet.  Both have modems giving access by wifi or ethernet cable.  Is there anywhere I can see what wifi connections are available to my PC and make a choice of which one to use?  I have looked in "Network and Sharing Center" but only the ADSL modem is listed, and always connects automatically to it.  I would like the option to use the satellite modem easily.  The ADSL internet is often down so a quick method of selecting the satellite would be handy.

I have asked this question on two other tech forums and nobody responds.  Is this a stupid question or am I not making myself understood?

Yes, you can. Click the Wi-Fi icon on your taskbar (bottom right). It’ll show all available networks — your ADSL and satellite ones. Just click the one you want to connect to and enter the password if needed. If you don’t want Windows to always pick ADSL, uncheck “Connect automatically” for that network

Sorry Carl, Clicking the icon (5 bars rising?) does not show any choice of networks to join.  Anyway.  I have taken down the satellite dish and managed to break my contract with Nordnet early.  The wifi cannot be made to work so I just don't see it is worth €50 a month for extra speed but no wifi connectivity.  Thanks anyway for your input.
